Summer is when Tollywood rakes in a lot of moolah. Summer is when block-busters set the cash registers ringing. Last year’s biggest hits Race Gurram and Legend were released during summer. Hits of yesteryears like Mirchi and Gabbar Singh too were released in summer.

Summer is when Tollywood rakes in a lot of moolah. Summer is when block-busters set the cash registers ringing. Last year’s biggest hits Race Gurram and Legend were released during summer. Hits of yesteryears like Mirchi and Gabbar Singh too were released in summer.

But, this summer is an exception. Big flicks with bigger names were lined up, but none of them hit the marquee. Big films like Srimanthudu, Kick2, Rudhramadevi and the prestigious Baahubali were to be released this summer.

But due to delay in post-production work, all these films got delayed. And who benefited this summer? It’s Hollywood flicks like Fast and Furious 7 and Mad Max that danced all the way to box-office. Even Hindi films like Piku, Tanu weds Manu Returns and Dil Dhadakne Do provided some comic relief to the audiences. But, Telugu film industry has completely lost out. Though some Telugu movies like Lion, Pandaga Chesko and Rakshasudu were released, they did not do all that well.

Now, Rudramadevi would be released on June 26. A week later, Kick 2 would release. Most awaited film Baahubali is expected to release on July 10 and following that Srimanthudu is releasing on July17. One only hopes June brings some rains and a lot of viewers to bail out the beleaguered Tollywood.
