In a month, I’m in Hyderabad for 15 days and on other days I’m in Mumbai doing serials. If I’m not shooting in Mumbai I’m just letting my hair down

Teen sensation Avika Gor says the audience and her fans expect her to be a part of family entertainers, a reason why she has signed ‘Cinema Choopista Maava’, her August 14 release. “Moreover, I love being a part of family entertainers. Even if I do a romantic love story, there should be a family angle to it.

Audience and especially elderly women keep telling me that they love what I’m doing,” says Avika. “’Cinema Choopista Maava’ is a beautiful and entertaining love story lade laden with family emotions. As the title suggests, it’s more of a fight, an entertaining one to be precise, between my father and the hero.”

The actress plays a Bengali in the film. “I have a lot of Bengali friends and they are known to speak fast. My homework was to emulate them but it was not easy,” smiles Avika, adding, “I always had a prompter on sets and he prompted so fast that I met the character demands easily.”

Ask her if she identified herself with the character, she chuckles, “There’s a scene in the film where my character teases the hero by saying, Ami tomake bhalobashi, which means I love you in English. If I get to encounter such a situation in my life, I would definitely do such things because every girl dreams of a beautiful and romantic love story.

“I could relate to the character at places because she is in her teens and believes her father blindly.” Avika, who keeps juggling between Mumbai and Hyderabad for work, says travelling doesn’t take a toll on her. “Actually it’s not difficult. My father manages everything. In a month I’m in Hyderabad for 15 days and on other days I’m in Mumbai doing serials. If I’m not shooting in Mumbai I’m just letting my hair down.”

In fact, she believes in taking time off to have fun. “My career in the showbiz started off more than a decade ago and I know if I don’t relax it will show on my body. I take ten days off in every month and indulge in fun, be it watching a movie multiple times or gorging on the food I love,” she laughs.

What about education? “It is happening. I’m doing a screenplay writing course from New York Film Academy. It is an online course.” Is direction on her mind? “Yes, obviously. To be a director you need to have a hold on the script and screenplay writing permits it,” she signs off.
