FILM TRADE BODIES

  • Those from AP claim that by-laws do not allow bifurcation of Film Chamber of Commerce and Film Producers Council
  • TS filmmakers are required to mobilise two-thirds majority even to press for amendment to existing laws

Hyderabad: Though Telangana film fraternity is seeking bifurcation of two trade bodies - Telugu Film Chamber of Commerce and Telugu Film Producers Council - for the last one year at various foras, it may not happen in near future.

According to a senior member in the chamber and council, “bifurcation is just next to impossible. So the domination by persons from Andhra Pradesh may continue for some more time. Existing by-laws do not allow such a bifurcation. Firstly, both the trade bodies are registered under Societies Act and as such bifurcation is disallowed.

A general body can even decide shutdown of the bodies, but there is no provision for bifurcation. Even if the protagonists manage to bring the issue before the general body of both the bodies, they require to mobilise two-thirds majority to get it ratified.

The Telangana filmmakers cannot muster numbers, so the task becomes difficult," he adds However, producer-director Sana Yadi Reddy, who is leading the Telangana State lobby, has dismissed the relevance of by-laws post bifurcation of the State.

"Now it is a new State. These bye-laws are no longer binding on us. When every natural resource from water, power and administration has been equally bifurcated, so bifurcation of trade bodies is a natural corollary," said Sana.

He elaborated that “Like other departments, we wanted the chamber to give 50-50 representation for TS and AP filmmakers. But our pleas were ignored. We will be moving court. The rules cannot remain unchanged post bifurcation,” he added.

However the filmmakers from Andhra Pradesh said that they were living here for more than 15 to 20 years and it made them locals. The AP filmmakers claimed that they were the citizens of Telangana by virtue of their stay, admitted Vijayendar Reddy, former office-bearer of the chamber. It was the responsibility of the government to clarify on the nativity issue.
