Superstar Mahesh Babu seems to be determined to expand his horizons. Some time back, the actor-turned producer with blockbuster ‘Srimanthudu’ and now all set to become a theatre owner in two Telugu states. The ‘Brahmotsavam’ star is reportedly in talks with theatre bigwig Sunil Narang of Asian Cinemas to jointly establish theatres in TS, AP and around 25-odd theatres in the first phase.

In fact, all leading Telugu star families like Suresh Babu, Chiranjeevi manage 400-odd theatres together and now its turn of Mahesh to step into the new arena. The Asian cinemas is already a popular brand and teaming up with Mahesh Babu will be a value addition since Mahesh is a brand of his own and has pan-Indian appeal.

“The discussions are going on between Mahesh Babu family and Sunil Narang to join hands and establish new chain of theatres in two Telugu states but other modalities are being worked out, Mahesh brand will add big value to the new set of theatres ” says a industry source.

Another producer-distributor Dil Raju also manages more than 150-theatres in TS, AP and a majority out of 1600-odd theatres in two Telugu states are held by four to five filmy families in T-town and now Mahesh will be stepping into a packed zone and bound to leverage his brand equity in a new arena.

“Unlike other four families, we hope that Mahesh Babu will understand the plight of 200-odd small producers and allow release in his chain of theatres,” says producer CN Rao. Coming to Mahesh Babu, the business acumen is in his genes, since his father and superstar Krishna acted in more than 300-odd films and established Padmalaya Film Studios and his production house ruled the roost in 70’s and 80’s.

The famed banner dished out blockbusters like ‘Alluri Seetharamaraju’, ‘Eenadu’ and ‘Simhasanam’ in Telugu and `Himmatwala’ and `Paatal Bharavi’ in Hindi and carved a niche for itself pan-India. So no prizes for guessing, now that Mahesh is expanding his foot print into various arenas and bound to make his mark, ala his illustrious father.
