Sleeper hit ‘Pelli Choopulu’ has recently won two National Awards including ‘Best Telugu Film in Regional Category’ and director Tharun Bhascker won ‘Best Dialogues’ award at the 64th National Film Awards in New Delhi.

The team members, director Tharun Bhascker, producers Raj Kandukuri and Yash Rangineni, actress Ritu Varma and music director Vivek Sagar interacted with media about film’s success and bagging two National Awards in a press meet at The Park Hotel on Thursday.

“I am very happy that our movie bagged two National Awards. I narrated the ‘Pelli Choopulu’ movie script to Vijay Devarakonda after his movie ‘Evade Subramanyam’. I approached many producers in the industry and everyone appreciated me for the story but they could not dare to produce it. Then I met Raj Kandukuri and Yash Rangineni and they loved the concept and said will produce it,” Tharun Bhascker recalled.

“The dialogues in the film are based on my experience with friends. I used local dialogues in the film to connect with the audience. Going local is the only way to go global. I got many offers after this movie. Many young actors in the industry appreciated my work. Telangana IT Minister KTR also lauded me. At present, I’m doing a film in Suresh Productions. I will also work with ‘Pelli Choopulu’ team in future,” he added.

Ritu Varma, the leading actress in the film said, “For every film, National Award is the highest recognition. Getting an award for a debut movie (Tharun Bhascker) is also a great feeling. Tharun made the film with a great script. We are trying to come with good stories in future. I loved my character in the film. I thought it was interesting and fresh. My next movie ‘Keshava’ is releasing soon. I’m also doing a film with Gautham Menon.”

Yash Rangineni, producer of the film said: “We are happy for bagging National Award for our first movie. Every member in the film did their best and we worked as a family. This is a team award. When we began the film, we believed in the content of this movie. I felt something new when Tharun told me the story. Media took our film to the next level. We knew the content of this film is unique and refreshing. This film also focuses on women empowerment.”
