To have strong representation of women in films is the way it should be says Zeenat Aman

Veteran Actress Zeenat Aman has said that strong representation of women in films is the way it should be so, to acknowledge, empower and honour them through films is really good thing.

Zeenat Aman was interacting with the media when she invited as a chief guest in ‘Miss World Extraordinary’ to celebrate international women’s day on Friday in Mumbai.

There is a trend of female centric films in Hindi film industry and they have been getting acceptance from the audience as well, when asked Aman whether she has watched any female centric film in recent times, she said, “Unfortunately, I haven’t seen films in recent times. I haven’t had opportunity to watch female centric films but I will definitely make an effort. I think success of female centric film is really good thing. When we talk about a man and a woman, there is yin and yang (Chinese philosophy). You can’t have one without the other so, to have strong representation of women in films is the way it should be. Women have are mothers, nurturers, life givers. They are backbone of a family through the years so, to acknowledge them and their presence, to empower them and to honour them is really good thing.”

Zeenat Aman features in several successful films like ‘Don’, Amar Akbar Anthony’, ‘Qurbani’, ‘Dharam Veer’ ‘Satyam Shivam Sundaram’ amongst others.

Talking about how she made choices of films, Aman said, “In life, you have to play with the cards which are there in your hand so, whatever professional offers I had; I made a decision from that. I feel that time and period was different. Now everything is available at your fingertips and now digital platforms rule the world. Everyone has mobile phones and in every second the news goes from here to the corners of the globe.”

She added, during her acting career, actors were treated as stars, “In that period, actors were treated as stars. People used to wait to go in theatres to watch films and meet their favourite artists but now, atmosphere is really different, I feel current atmosphere is also good but it is different from the past so, the choices that I made were from the opportunities that I was given.”

Sharing her feeling attending ‘Miss World Extraordinary’ contest as a chief guest, Aman said, “I am really happy to be here. I feel it is so wonderful to honour women all the time. Today, here at this contest, women have come from different parts of the country. They belonged to different age groups and they had different battles in their lives so, to honour them is really wonderful. It really celebrates the spirit of women. It was much more than what I expected because all these ladies are so different and talented in their own ways.”
