Karimnagar: At a time when the innocent public fears even the very sight of Khaki-clad policemen, the caring cops of Karimnagar have proved the people wrong by a noble and kind gesture.
After handling cases of myriad crimes committed by felons and anti-social elements, hardened and usually unsympathetic hearts behind the police uniforms melted after they heard the story of poor Anusha, who has been orphaned after the sad demise of her father.
While Anusha’s heartrending tale of woes moved the whole society, the police were no exception. In an exemplary act of compassion, the police personnel performed her marriage, of course with the approval of higher-ups, and promised jobs to her and her husband in private firms. The bride, Anusha, felt that even if her parents were alive, her marriage would not have been performed in this fashion.
Pathetic is the story of Anusha, who studied up to Intermediate. She lost her mother four years ago due to some illness. Her brother went to Dubai in search of work but landed in jail there because of visa irregularities. Her father committed suicide on March 9 unable to raise funds for the March 13 marriage of Anusha, whose marriage was fixed earlier with one Ganesh of Pegadapalli.
The suicide that occurred in Tirumalapur in Ramadugu mandal of Karimnagar district moved one and all. Anusha was shell-shocked and was left in a state of utter confusion as her dreams of entering the marital life were shattered.
At that moment, the police acted as Good Samaritan. Ramdugu sub-inspector Naresh, touched by her helplessness, contacted the police higher-ups and suggested the department to come to her rescue at her hour of crisis. Forgetting their ranks, the police officials acted in unison. Circle Inspector Lakshman Babu and Superintendent of Police Kamalasan Reddy stepped into shoes of marriage elders and got her marriage performed colourfully.
The police arranged clothes for the bride and bridegroom, toe rings, mangal sutra, talambralu and feast for the occasion and distributed wedding cards to people in the village. Thus the initiatives of Naresh transformed the life of a woman who was virtually at the crossroads because of the series of calamities in her family.
At 11.30 am on Thursday, Anusha wedded Ganesh in the presence of the police personnel, villagers, people’s representatives and others. The police extended hospitality to the wedding guests and sent Anusha to her in-laws’ place a la her own family members. Moreover, they promised to help her through thick and thin and asked her not to hesitate to seek help if she needs any.
The locals contributed funds liberally to Anusha and made a fixed deposit for Rs 1.50 lakh in her name. Some others contributed cash directly to her to help her meet her immediate expenses. Near and dear of Anusha heaped praises on the police as even her father could not have afforded the celebration of her marriage on such a scale.
The police blessed the couple and promised jobs to the bride and bridegroom in private firms. SP Kamalasan Reddy announced at the marriage venue that he would get Ganesh employed in a private firm and also a job to Anusha.
When the fate played a cruel joke on Anusha by robbing her of her family members, the police department came to her rescue and provided her a new lease of life, acting as Good Samaritans. The noble act of police brought much appreciation from one and all.
