Debts drive 5 of family to suicide

Guntur: Five members of a family hailing from Sattenapalli in Guntur district allegedly committed suicide by consuming pesticide on Monday afternoon. Financial problems were stated to be the motive, according to police.

B Prasad, who ran a provision shop in Sattenpalli, incurred losses in the business. Depressed by the increasing financial problems, he resorted to the extreme step along with his family members by consuming cool drinks laced with pesticide around 2 pm. The neighbours who noticed the incident immediately alerted the police, who shifted them in an ambulance to the nearest hospital where doctors declared them 'brought dead'.

The deceased were identified as Prasad (40), his wife Sunita (32), mother Ratnamma (58), son Harshit Kumar (10) and daughter Ashwini (7). A case has been registered in this regard and further investigations were on.

A suicide note purportedly written by Prasad stated that financial problems had driven him and his family members to suicide. Besides his health was also not well, it was noted. None was held responsible for their death, the

police said.
