Hyderabad: A cricket betting syndicate operating in the current season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) has been busted at Afzalgunj. Two persons, including the kingpin, who is a businessman, have been arrested. Police recovered a cash of Rs 32,700, seven mobile phones, a TV, a cable box and seven remote controls from their possession.

The accused were identified as Damodhar Das Bung, 52, of Shahinayathgunj and Gopal Bung, 28, of Begumbazar.

The arrest came after the police received information about bets being placed on IPL match to be played between Rajasthan Royals and Kolkata Knight Riders on Monday. It was learnt that the racketeers also provided betting lines to other bookies.

“Better stake depends on the ups and down of the match. After completion of the match, they go to their customers to collect the money and later this money is distributed accordingly in the ratio of their betting percentage,” said the police.
