The accused Ninad Nagnath Sonkavde, 32, had married Vanita, 27, of Kamala Nagar in ECIL area on July 1, 2012. He took his wife to Thane in Mumbai but allegedly harassed her for additional dowry and sent her back to her parents as she failed to meet the demand. “At the time of their marriage, the man was given Rs 10 lakh in cash and 15 sovereigns of gold ornaments,” said the victim’s parents.

Their daughter was staying with them for the past one year after she was forced out of the house in the dead of night by her husband. Based on a complaint filed by the victim’s family members, Kushaiguda police registered a case under Section 498 A (Dowry harassment) of the Indian Penal Code and nabbed Ninad.
