Hyderabad: In a rare incident, the persisting technical snag inside an ATM has been better utilised for his advantage by a youth. Apart from procuring 32 ATM cards from various banks on different names the individual has withdrawn a huge sum of Rs 1.45cr from the ATMs. The accused has been caught red handed by the Anantapur police early on Wednesday. The individual has been identified as Managanti Karthik, a resident of L.B. Nagar in Hyderabad. Addicted to lavish life, Karthik has turned towards the wrong path to earn money for his lavish spending.

Going on with his lavish life, he had withdrawn an amount of Rs 10K from an ATM located near Railway Bridge at Nandyal, a few days before. Just before the dispensing of the cash, he pressed the cancel button. Nevertheless, to his surprise, the amount has come out and there was no deduction in the balance amount. He has identified it as the technical problem of the ATMs. He used to repeat the same process and withdraw the amount. He thought that he would be caught, if he repeats the same with his own ATM card and subsequently opened 32 accounts in various banks and procured 32 ATM cards. He bought a Hundai Verna car for Rs 13L with the amount he gained through this process. The bank officials identified the difference of amounts in various ATMs at Nandyal and observed the CCTV footage.

Later, they identified the thief and alerted the security at the ATMs from where he withdraws amount regularly. The security guard of an ATM has informed the police, when Karthik went inside an ATM, early on Wednesday. The same was let known by Karthik and fled away from the spot. As the car rushed to Anantpur side, information was given to Anantapur SP. Karthik felt the indication that he was being chased by the police. He stopped the car near Guntakal in Anantapur district and changed over his dress. He was found running towards the railway station by the police. The police could able to catch him with the help of the local people. They have seized 32 ATM cards, Rs 8K in cash and 4 cell phones and his car. The police have identified the presence of a woman at that time. Nevertheless, she fled away from the spot, before the police reached there.
