Hyderabad: The police busted the pseudo police gang, which robbed 8 kg gold ornaments from Mumbai-based jewelers at Lakdi-ka-pul on the night of October 12. It found that convener of a Human Rights Organisation was the kingpin of the gang.

In a joint operation by Central Zone Team of Commissioner's Task Force and Saifabad Police, six special teams were pressed into action immediately after receiving the complaint on October 13. They arrested the culprits with the help of CCTV camera footage.

The accused were identified as Mohammed Azhar Mohiuddin alias Yamin, 27, Convener, Telangana State Human Rights Organisation and resident of Kukatpally, Katta Sai Kiran, 21, wall painter, resident of Kukatpally and native of Atmakur, Prakasam District, Shaik Feroz, 23, Fabrication worker, resident of Kukatpally, Rathod Pratap Singh alias Laddu, 22, B Tech student and a resident of Kutatpally and Dasari Rahul alias Tinku, 22, Computer Operator at Suraj Bhan Jewellers, near Chermas showroom and resident of Khairtabad. According to police, the representatives of MBS Jewellers, a Mumbai-based company, had visited Hyderabad on October 8 and 12, along with the gold ornaments.

They visited scores of shops, including Suraj Bhan Jewellers in the city for marketing the varieties. Tinku, who was working for Suraj Bhan Jewellers informed about their arrival to Yamin.

They followed the jewellers continuously for three days and watched their movements.

On the night of October 12 at 9.45 pm, they observed the jewellers getting into two autos at Deepak Bhavan, Hanuman Tekdi and followed them on two motorcycles up to HP petrol pump.

Three of the jewellers went into the travel office for purchasing tickets at Lakdi-ka-pul. On noticing one of the jewellers alone along with a hand bag, Yamin and Sai Kiran rushed there and threatened him by saying they were from crime branch and demanded to hand over the bag. But when he resisted the attempt, he was assaulted and the bag was snatched away. Feroz, who was on other bike fled away with the gold, while others fled away in different directions. They re-assembled at Erramanzil colony and shared the booty. The entire incident was recorded in the CCTV cameras, installed at HP petrol pump, Lakdi-ka-pul, where the incident took place.

The City Commissioner M Mahender Reddy appealed to the business establishments to install CCTVs in accordance with the provisions of Public Safety Measures (Enforcement) Act, 2013, to safeguard their life and property and also for the safety of the customers visiting their establishments.
