Anantapur: Police arrested on Saturday one Shiva Shankar on the charge of murdering a three-year-old girl Archita on Friday, near the Kadirepalli Sri Lakshminarasimha Swamy temple in Somandepalli mandal in the district. Presenting the accused before the media here on Saturday, DSP Subba Rao said Shiva Shankar, who hailed from Paideti village of Parigi mandal in the district and Narasimha Murthy of Kalisimaruvapalli village of Roddam mandal were very good friends.

Narasimhamurthy is married and has two daughters. Narrating the sequence of events, the DSP said Shiva Shankar, who was a gay, entered into an illicit relationship with Narasimha Murthy who used to pester him for marriage. Narasimha Murthy told him that he would marry him if he underwent sex change operation and Shiva Shankar also mobilised Rs 20,000 to undergo the operation.

However, Narasimha Murthy had a three-year-old daughter Archita on whom he used to shower lot of love and affection. Unable to resist the pangs of jealousy at Narasimha Murthy showing affection for Archita, Shiva Shankar kidnapped her, took her to the Lakshminarasimha Swamy temple in Kadirepalli on the new moon day on Friday and murdered her by beating her with a stick.

The passers-by, who witnessed the ghastly incident, caught Shiv Shankar and handed him over to the police. The DSP said It was not clear whether Shiva Shankar, who was a gay, murdered Archita out of sheer jealousy or for gaining wealth and so-called occult powers by killing during the mid-day near a temple on a new moon day.
