Hyderabad: The Cyber Crime Team, Hyderabad on Tuesday arrested a person on charges of cheating people on the pretext of erecting cell phone towers on their farm lands and on roof tops by posing as an agent of a network company. Police recovered two mobile phones, IOB passbook, an ATM card and a motorcycle from his possession. The Pro-Active team of Marketing Intelligence, technical team, CCS, Detective Department, Hyderabad claimed to have busted the racket with the arrest of Rahul Kumar Mishra, 32, of Motinagar.

The fraud came to light when one of the victims complained to the police alleging that the accused had cheated him after collecting money towards security deposit and processing fee for the allotment and erecting of cell phone towers on their lands, on lease basis, but failed to deliver. “The accused collected mobile numbers of people by contacting local sarpanches of Darbhanga and Madhubani districts of Bihar for erecting cell phone towers of various network companies.

He would give a bank account number and ask the callers to deposit the money towards security and processing fee. Once the amount gets deposited, he would block the callers’ numbers and change his phone numbers," ACP (Cyber Crimes), Hyderabad, B Anuradha said.
