A 13-year-old girl from Ranchi who is studying in Class IX wrote a letter to the principal of her school to save her from getting married. Duli Hembrom in her letter stated that her parents fixed her wedding on April 22 but she doesn’t want to get married and wants to complete her education.
Unable to convince her parents, Duli also reminded her principal about the oath that her school administers took at the time of admission of each student and said that she does not wish to get married before turning 18.
Duli’s father, Lachhu Hembrom however said that it is a common phenomena for child marriages in their society and later on it would be difficult for him to find a suitable match for a grown-up girl.
