Tiruchirappalli: Two Customs department officials were today placed under suspension in connection with the disappearance of 15 kg of gold from the safety locker of the customs office here recently.
Officials said the Commissioner of Customs Johnny ordered the suspension of the officials -- Mohammed Farook (Superintendent) and Senthilkumar (Inspector)-- after initial inquiry.
Meanwhile, CBI officials are investigating various angles in the case, including the alleged links between customs officials and smuggler groups.
