Hyderabad: A 46-year-old man who allegedly posed as a police officer and extorted money from a complainant, was apprehended by the Gopalpuram Police on Friday. Police also booked a case against the complainant on charges of making up a fabricated tale that he was kidnapped by the accused and money was extorted from him. Complainant, Dantuluri Venkata Rama Narasimha Raju, 31, a private employee of SR Nagar lodged a complaint with the Gopalapuram police station on May 6, mentioning that he was kidnapped by two persons near St Ann’s School in Secunderabad who posed themselves as cops and extorted Rs 10,000 from him.

Based on his complaint, police registered a case under Sections 419, 420, 384, 364-A, 323 and 506 of the IPC and took up investigation. During probe, police rounded up Konda Ashok of Tukkuguda in Ranga Reddy district on Friday around 12 noon from his residence. “Efforts are being made to nab his associates Gangadhar of Amberpet and Sudhakar of Nagole who are still at large,” the cops said

According to police, Ashok in his confession revealed that Venkata Rama used to harass a woman (cousin of Gangadhar) of West Venkatapuram on the pretext of love for the past two years. Unable to bear the harassment, the woman informed Gangadhar who in turn took the help of Ashok and Sudhakar to attack Venkata Rama.

“On May 6, Venkata Rama went to the woman’s place where Ashok, Gangadhar and Sudhakar prepared the ground to attack Venkata Rama. Posing as policemen, the trio hit him badly and extorted Rs 10,300 from him and later called up Venkata Rama’s father and demanded Rs 1 lakh to settle the accident case in which Venkata Rama’s was earlier involved,” the cops said

Police made it clear that nobody kidnapped Venkata Rama as he himself went to the woman’s place. But in his complaint, he concocted a story of getting kidnapped. Police has registered a case against Venkata Rama, under Section 203 and 420 of the IPC.
