Hyderabad: Busting a fake advertisement racket, the Marketing Intelligence Unit (MIU) of the Crime Branch on Thursday arrested a DJ of New Delhi for allegedly duping several people by promising electronic goods at cheaper rates through websites on quikr.com which were found to be fake. Police recovered a laptop, ATM cards, three cell phones and some cash from his possession.

The unit, under the supervision of ACP (Cyber Crimes) B Anuradha, arrested Nikhil Arora, 26, of Ashok Vihar, New Delhi while three of his accomplices – Naman Arora, Vikas Thomar and Nidhi Kumari - who are still at large. Police is making efforts to nab them.

“The accused posted an advertisement on quikr.com with fake websites like www.store1800.com, www.primeelectronics1800.zohysitas.com and www.store1800.zohysitas.com with mobile numbers and e-mail IDs offering sale of electronic goods at cheaper rates. When the customers called them on seeing their advertisements, they convinced people by saying that the goods were original and selling them at lowest prices.

Once the customers got attracted, they were asked to deposit the amount in advance in their accounts. After the amount was deposited, the fraudsters would block the number and start avoiding the calls,” Additional CP (Crimes and SIT) Swathi Lakra said they deceived several people and collected huge amounts from them.
