Hyderabad: The Detective Department Cyber Police on Monday arrested three persons, who hailed from Delhi, on the charge of cheating a large number of persons by promising bank loans at lower interest. The police found that the scamsters had collected over Rs 10 crore from 522 persons, according to City Police Commissioner M Mahender Reddy here on Monday.

Those, who took the bait, came from several states. They included 118 from Andhra Pradesh and 257 from Telangana, 257 from Karnataka, 75 from Maharashtra, 31 from West Bengal and 41 other states, Mahender Reddy said.

The Police Commissioner, at a press conference, recounted that one of the victims, Syed Qutubuddin, a resident Azampura in city, lodged a complaint with the Cyber Crime Police on August 28. He told the police that he was tricked into parting Rs 5.8 lakh by some persons in Delhi.

They promised to secure him bank loans at lower interest rate, he said. He identified one person, named Yogesh Jindal of Value Finvest Finance in Noida. He promised to secure Rs 20 lakh loan for Syed Qutubuddin and asked the latter to deposit Rs 5.8 lakh towards processing fee, income tax and RBI fee, etc. Basing on the complaint, the police traced the mobile numbers of the accused.

A special team of police, who went to Delhi, took Mahipal Singh Yadav (34), managing director of My Investment Guruji Service at Gurgaon, Vimal Arora (21), a telecaller working for Mahipal and Shantanu Kumar (28), an employee in a private company, on September 3.

Mahipal confessed to having hatched a plan by drawing on his experience in telemarketing to take those seeking bank loans for a ride. He connived with My Invest Guruji Services and carried out the plan, the Police Commissioner said. Mahender Reddy said the investigations revealed that My Invest Guruji Company had provided SIM cards to telecallers and ensured that they had contacted persons at random.

The list of the persons, who were interested in securing loan, was sent to a firm, called Value Added Card Private Limited. The staff of Value Card company had sent messages to persons, saying that their applications for loans were approved and asked them to send in demand drafts for various amounts to the Value Added Cards company. The accused shared booty, the Police Commissioner said.

Apart from arrest, the police also froze Rs 1.52 crore of accounts belonging to the accused. Search teams were sent to arrest Sandeep Juneja (35), managing director Value Added Cards company, and Rakesh Sharma, director of My Investment Guruji Services, Mahender Reddy said.
