Mahabubnagar: The spate of suicides by farmers continues unabated in the district. One more farmer, Boyi Venkatesh, who hailed from Addakula mandal in the district, committed suicide on Tuesday.

He took the extreme step following the failure of the crop and as debt burden mounted on him. In another incident in Sangareddy, unable to bear the burden of debt, another farmer committed suicide on Tuesday.

Chakali Krishna (45), a resident of Nandigandi Village under, Sadasivpet Mandal, borrowed Rs 5 lakh from a moneylender to marry off his two daughters. With the loss of crop, he had lost hopes of repaying the loan.

Depressed over his inability to repay the loan, he consumed a fatal dose of poison at his residence on Tuesday. had two daughters and a son. For getting his daughters married, he had borrowed money from private money lenders to the tune of Rs 5 lakh.

Having lost hopes on a failed crop this kharif season and with the fear of financers troubling him, he consumed poison at his residence on Tuesday.

However according to his son, Krishna was addicted to toddy regularly and since the government had banned mixing of gulfam powder in toddy, he stopped drinking for about a week which had pushed him into depression. He was also used to gambling.
