Hyderabad: A 40-year-old farmer from Shamshabad died on Tuesday night at Osmania General Hospital after he consumed pesticide on September 21 as he was depressed over crop failure.

According to the police, Venkatesh, a tenant farmer in Rashidguda under Shamshabad rural mandal, borrowed crop loans to grow fruits and vegetables this year.

As the crops failed, he went into depression and resorted to the extreme step of committing suicide.

It is believed that the farmer was also suffering from loneliness after his wife committed suicide last year owing to a family dispute.

Also, his two sons left him and started staying with his mother-in-law in Kandukur mandal in Rangareddy district after his wife’s demise. However, to continue living Venkatesh took two acres of farmland on lease for cultivating fruits and vegetables. .

This year, he borrowed loan and was unable to pay back due to crop loss. He was ferried to Osmania General Hospital for treatment after he consumed pesticide. He died on Tuesday.
