A notorious housebreaking offender was arrested and gold ornaments weighing 55 tolas worth Rs 17 lakh was recovered from him by the Medipally police on Monday.

Hyderabad: A notorious housebreaking offender was arrested and gold ornaments weighing 55 tolas worth Rs 17 lakh was recovered from him by the Medipally police on Monday.
The arrest of the burglar Maram Venkat Reddy (39), an auto-rickshaw driver by profession living in Medipally, was made by special teams formed to curb property offences in Malkajgiri division that covers Malkajgiri,
Nacharam, Uppal, Ghatkesar, Medipally, Alwal, Kushaiguda, Neredmet, Keesara and Jawaharnagar police stations limits, said Malkajgiri DCP R Rema Rajeshwari.
The DCP informed that the accused has been committing offenses for the past 20 years and was convicted five times by various courts. Despite being imprisoned for several times, the accused did not reform, the police said.
Upon his arrest, the special teams managed to detect 18 cases of property thefts, including a chain snatching offense. As much as 55 tolas gold ornaments worth Rs 17 lakh was recovered. He was produced before the court.
