The accused confessed to having involved in “attention diversion” crimes under Ramgopalpet police station on October 16. The arrested were identified as Dorapally Kamalakar, 40, alias Kamala, and driver of YSR Colony, Jakkampudi, Vijayawada and Cheekurthi Suresh Babu of the same colony.

The duo confessed to have committed 23 offences, including four under OU police limits, one each under Chikkadpally and Ramgopalpet police limits. The remaining cases are yet to be verified. The police also seized a cash of Rs 19,000, a motorcycle and 18 mobile phones.

According to East Zone Deputy Commissioner of Police, the main accused Dorapally Kamalakar started pick pocketing from the age of 18 and was arrested in AP and Telangana States. He reportedly got trained in Stuartpuram in the art of pick pocketing.

He was arrested by Jubilee Hills police in 2011 for the same and was also sentenced to undergo five years of rigorous imprisonment in a murder case in 2013 and lodged in Rajamundry Central Jail. He was released on bail last week of August this year and formed a gang with Cheekurthi Suresh Babu of Vijayawada.

They came to Hyderabad and rented a house at Ramnagar and started committing ‘diversion attention’ crimes in the City.They used to visit the city on Monday and after committing offences leave for Vijayawada on every Friday evening, said the police.
