Hyderabad: About 14 students of International School of Excellence at Tolichowki fell ill due to a poisonous gas leak from the chemical laboratory where they were carrying out experiments on Friday. Students were rushed to various hospitals and are being treated.

The students of sixth and seventh standard were practicing chemical tests in the laboratory when a bottle of Nitrous Oxide fell on the floor, emanating fumes.

The students were immediately rushed to Candy hospital for treatment. After first-aid, ten students were sent home, while four were shifted to the Intensive Care Unit after finding their condition critical.

State Minorities Commission Chairman Abid Rasool Khan visited the hospitals and enquired about the treatment being given to the children. He also spoke to the Hyderabad District Collector and West Zone Deputy Commissioner of Police.

The Chairman also sought a detailed report from the GHMC Zonal Commissioner, Dy Commissioner of Police and Hyderabad District Educational Officer over the incident and action taken. The Golconda police registered a case under relevant sections of IPC and the investigation is being carried out.
