Cops recover cash and 11 stolen ATM cards

The SR Nagar police received a complaint from B Suryanarayana of Khairatabad stating that when he had faced some technical faults inside the SBI ATM at Balkampet area and could not deposit money, an unidentified man entered the ATM in guise of helping him and stole Rs. 50,000 cash from him and fled.

Based on CCTV footages inside the ATM, an old offender earlier arrested by the Kurnool police and jailed for similar offenses was identified. Subsequently, on credible information, the police have taken custody of D Siddesh (25), farmer from Krishnapuram village in Kurnool district, said West Zone DCP A Venkateshwara Rao.

On questioning, Siddesh confessed to have committed the offense of diverting attention of people inside ATM centres and stealing their money and ATM cards, said the DCP. He said Siddesh was involved in three such cases in Punjagutta division including two at Punjagutta since January 2016 after being granted a bail from jail. He has been remanded to judicial custody, the DCP said.

“We appeal the public not to believe strangers who voluntarily enter the ATM centres in guise of helping to withdraw or deposit money and inform police if any person is found moving suspiciously near the ATMs or banks,” the DCP added.
