Hyderabad: The South Zone Task Force Police and Central Crime Station sleuths on Thursday busted an inter-State drug peddling racket and arrested two persons including a man from West Bengal with 2.7 kg opium in their possession.

On a tip-off, the sleuths nabbed two persons near Puranapool Darwaza in Hussaini Alam police station limits and five sachets of opium weighing 2.7 kg was found at their instance.

The accused identified as Kaium Ul Huq (23), farmer from Gulab Gunj village in West Bengal and Chandan Naveen (28), driver from Jumerath Bazar in Hyderabad, were selling the drug to needy persons by smuggling it from West Bengal in trains, the police said.

Investigation revealed that accused Chandan Naveen, a native of Madhya Pradesh was earlier arrested in dowry death case and accused Kaium Ul Haq was arrested in fake currency case, said Task Force Additional DCP N Koti Reddy.

“Chandan and Kaium developed friendship in Chanchalguda jail. They met one Saleem of West Bengal who was arrested in fake currency racket case and continued their friendship even after release from jail.

As the trio was unable to meet their expenses, they hatched plan to earn easy money by selling opium,” the additional DCP said.

The arrested duo along with seized drugs and two mobile phones were handed over to CCS police for further investigation and search is on to nab absconding Saleem, the officer said.
