Hyderabad: The Shamshabad police of Ranga Reddy district, in Telangana, summoned Vijayawada 25th Ward corporator Ummadi Venkateshwara Rao alias Chantibabu to appear before them in connection with his alleged misbehaviour with a woman passenger in a flight recently.

Responding to the phone call by the police, Venkateshwara Rao sought two days’ time to appear before them and promised to co-operate with the investigation. He told the police that he would bring his advocate to complete all formalities.

Though the corporator had got some relief from police action at the time of the complaint with the intervention of a local MP, however, the police registered a case against Venkateshwara Rao and asked him to surrender before them. The complainant alleged that Venkateshwara Rao had molested her while they were travelling in an Air India flight to Hyderabad.

The Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, Hyderabad, police had registered a case against the corporator under Section 354 (assault or criminal force to woman to outrage modesty).

The corporator, however, flew back to Vijayawada in the same flight before the police could question him. The police informed their counterparts at Gannavaram airport where he was questioned. About 30 corporators from Vijayawada were on the same flight, who were returning from a study tour.
