Mirdoddi (Medak): Owing to debts, a farmer committed suicide by hanging on Tuesday. K Parsayya, 45, hailing from Bhoompally village of Mirdoddi mandal in Medak district owns 2.5 acres of land. In the past 18 months, he dug three borewells but they failed to fetch any water leaving him in deep debts. His daughter’s marriage had only worsened the situation.

This Kharif season, Parsayya went for maize crop based on initial rains but the crop failed due to inadequate rains later leaving him a total debt of Rs 6.5 lakh. On Tuesday, he hanged to a tree in his field.

The issue became public on Wednesday morning as villagers alerted his family and informed the local police. He is survived by a son, a married daughter and a wife. Though many parts of Telangana received good rainfall this monsoon, Medak district received scanty rains.
