Hyderabad: A sexagenarian woman was robbed of property worth about Rs 35 lakh at knifepoint by two unknown persons at her house in Medipally on Tuesday. The woman’s son, a realtor, lodged a complaint with the police in this regard.

The incident took place around 11 am on Tuesday in realtor P Chandrasekhar Reddy’s house. The 38-year-old realtor along with his mother P Balamani (60) lives at Saraswathi Nagar Colony in Boduppal.

According to the complainant, he had sold a land in the city a few days ago and brought home Rs 30 lakh in cash and gave it to his mother to keep it safe in the house. On Saturday last, Chandrasekhar went to Kakinada on some work.

On Tuesday morning while Balamani was having breakfast alone at home, two unknown persons with their faces masked entered the house. They tied her to a chair and gagged her mouth demanding money. Initially, she refused to tell them about the money.

But when they threatened to kill her with a knife, she was forced to reveal about it, said Medipally inspector B Naveen Reddy. The robbers decamped with about 15 tolas gold and Rs 30 lakh cash.

Chandrasekhar who returned home on Tuesday after knowing about the incident, lodged a complaint with the police. “He suspecting that any of his friends could have resorted to the act, knowing that his mother is alone,” the inspector said.

“We have some contradictions in the complainant and his mother’s version about the property lost. However, we have booked a case of robbery and two teams are on the job to identify the accused,” the inspector added.Reportedly, the police have taken five persons into custody for interrogation.
