Visakhapatnam: The SC, ST cell of the police commissonerate registered the first case with regard to the links of gangster Nayem with the city. Initially, a complaint was received by Bhimili police station and it was transferred to SC, ST Cell on Thursday.

The victim, Bodduri Bhushanam of Ampavalli village of Vizianagaram district, a Dalit, complained to the police that some anti-social elements led by one Dantuluri Suryanarayana Varma claiming to have links with gangster Nayeem stopped him from entering his property located at Kapulauppada village under Bhimili police station limits. He said that he purchased two plots measuring 2.4 acres and 1.64 acres from Manyala Gujjayya, Manyala Ramulu and Botta Appalamma for Rs 75,000 in 1988.

Suryanarayana Varma owned 60 cents of land adjacent to one of his sites. In 2014, when he tried to enter his land, the anti-social elements claiming to be close followers of Nayeem told him to stay away from the land and warned him with dire consequences if he tried to enter the land.

Cowed down by the threats and being a Dalit, Bhushanam stayed away from his land since then. But when he came to know about Nayeem’s death and the subsequent SIT visit to the city, he gained courage and lodged a complaint.

The FIR in the SC, ST cell was registered against two retired RDOs B Satyanarayana, D Veerabhadrayya and retired tahsildar Mahanti Seetapathi. “We have not made any arrests. An investigation began on Thursday and we will take action basing on the inquiry reports,’’ said assistant commissioner of police SC, ST cell B Mohan Rao.
