Hyderabad: Police arrested a 47-yr old man in connection with two consecutive blasts on October 1 and 2 in Ibrahimpatnam. At least four persons were injured in the blasts at Ambedkar Chowk when hazardous ‘organic solvents’ were not disposed of even after three years.

According police, the accused Boosani Nandagopal, resident of Bapunagar at Amberpet used to manufacture organic solvents. As part of his business, he supplied the same to various companies engaged in manufacture of fibre articles.

In 2013, the accused had sent two tins of organic solvents to traders in Chennai, but they were sent back through Jai Balaji Transport in Thurkayamjal. Instead of taking the delivery of the tins, the accused, the police said, had left them lying in the transport company. As the material was lying unattended, a driver sold one of the two tins to a roadside hawker for Rs 50.

On the same day at about 7 pm the material in the tin exploded due to formation of gases, the police said.
Again on the next day, Pallti Yadaiah, 45, mason, accidentally stepped on the residual contents at the blast site. He sustained bleeding injuries to his left foot, besides two others Nagamani and Kalidas, who sustained minor injuries. The accused was booked under sections 285, 337 and 338 of IPC.

"The accused prepared organic solvents, which remains an unlicenced commercial activity. Besides this, he has shown negligence in dealing with the material, resulting in blasts and causing injuries to people,” Ibrahimpatnam ACP P Narayana said .
