Hyderabad: The South Zone police seized 222 two-wheelers driven by minors and as part of ‘Operation Chabutra’ they rounded up 150 nocturnal youth, roaming during the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday.

The special drive in which over 200 policemen took part, identified 222 minors aged between 14 and 16 years, riding two wheelers. The vehicles were seized and the minors were handed over to their parents, after counselling at Quli Qutub Shah Stadium on Wednesday. The vehicle owners were also booked under Section 180 of the MV Act.

South Zone DCP V Satyanarayana warned that if any of the vehicle owner was found to repeat the negligence, cases would be booked under section 336 of the IPC (rash and negligent manner and endangering the common people). This, he said was part of measures to contain road accidents.

“Since 25 minors died in the road accidents during last two years, the police was acting tough against the violators with the intention of averting accidents,” he informed. Towards neutralising the activities of nocturnal youths, 150 individuals were taken into custody.
