​Hyderabad: A 27-year-old man, who got married a few weeks ago, committed suicide after he lost all the jewellery belonging to his wife in cricket betting.

According to the police, Ghan Shyam of M N Reddy Nagar in Jeedimetla ran a grocery store along with his father Durgaram at Bapujinagar in Bowenpally. His family performed his marriage on April 28.

He was addicted to cricket betting and lost all the money. Further, he mortgaged 280 grams of gold jewellery belonging to his wife to borrow money and used it for cricket betting.

However, he lost all the money and could not release the jewellery due to which he was not able to face his wife and family.

Added to this, the family attended a marriage on Wednesday night and he felt insulted as his wife had to attend the wedding without wearing any jewellery.

After returning home at midnight and after his family went to sleep, Ghan Shyam hanged himself to the ceiling fan using a blanket.

His family brought him down immediately after noticing him hanging from the ceiling fan but Ghan Shyam was already dead following which they informed the police.

The police found a suicide note in which he apologised to his family saying he suffered huge loss in cricket betting due to which he had decided to take the extreme step. The police registered a case and took up investigation.
