4 held in two separate cases for circulating fake currency
City police on Friday arrested three persons of a five-member gang for circulating fake currency notes in Rs 2000 denomination. The arrested were identified as Shaik Arshad Ali, Shaik Arif of Ghatkesar and Abdul Razzak of West Bengal. Two other accused – Mohammed Ghouse of Yakutpura and Khaimul Haq of West Bengal are absconding.
Hyderabad: City police on Friday arrested three persons of a five-member gang for circulating fake currency notes in Rs 2000 denomination. The arrested were identified as Shaik Arshad Ali, Shaik Arif of Ghatkesar and Abdul Razzak of West Bengal. Two other accused – Mohammed Ghouse of Yakutpura and Khaimul Haq of West Bengal are absconding.
Police seized fake currency notes worth Rs 1.9 lakh from their possession. According to the police, all the five accused formed a gang while in prison. After their release, Arshad went to Nagpur in pursuance of their plan and received fake currency notes worth Rs 2 lakh sent by Khaimul through Razzak.
After receiving the currency notes, Arshad and Razzak reached Hyderabad and gave five fake currency notes worth Rs 10,000 to Ghouse for circulation on a trial basis. On Friday, Arshad, Arif and Razzak reached Secunderabad railway station to circulate the fake currency notes when task force team nabbed them following the inputs given by DRI. In another case, city police arrested a former railway police inspector and recovered 100 Lirasi notes (Turkish currency) from his possession.
The arrested was identified as M Srimannarayana Prasad, former railway police inspector residing at Habsiguda, while another accused Seshu is absconding. Police said Prasad got the demonetised Turkish currency notes from Seshu and was trying to sell them to gullible people to make quick bucks. Central zone task force team got wind of it and nabbed the former cop at a restaurant in Secunderabad.
