Childhood pal kills M Tech woman
An M Tech student, Savanam Lakshmi Maniteja Reddy, 23, of Old Chirala was allegedly killed by her childhood classmate and friend Vallepu Gopichand on Saturday night. The killer had fled the scene after informing his friend about the murder.

Maniteja, elder daughter of Prabhakar Reddy and Dhanalakshmi, has been pursuing M Tech, while working as part-time employee in an automobile showroom in Chirala. Gopichand, Maniteja’s classmate till 10th Class and a polytechnic dropout, drives a service auto-rickshaw between Chirala and Vetapalem. On Saturday night, Gopichand and Maniteja went to
Gopichand’s uncle Uppucharla Srinivas’s house at Ramnagar in Vetapalem. It’s not known what happened between them, but after a while, Gopichand called one of his friends over phone and told him that he had killed Maniteja. Upon receiving information from Gopichand’s friend, the Chirala rural police rushed to the spot only to find the dead body of Maniteja with her throat slit.
Chirala DSP Prem Kajal visited the spot and ordered a thorough inquiry. Chirala rural CI Bhaktavatsala Reddy said that a search operation is on to nab the culprit.
