Rajahmundry: YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) leader Sharmila's 'Maro Praja Prasthanam' padayatra got resounding reception on the second day in East Godavari district on Wednesday. 
Sharmila's padayatra began at St Paul's compound at 9.45 am and reached Kambala tank centre via Jampeta Bridge, Azad Chowk, Gandhi Centre and Nandam Ganiraju Centre where she garlanded the statue of former minister Jakkampudi Rammohan Rao. Later, Sharmila reached Konthamuru village of Rajahmundry rural mandal via Vivekananda Park, Korukonda Road and Quarry Market area where she stopped for lunch. A large number of people, including women, waited patiently along the roadside to see Sharmila. Rajahmundry urban constituency convenor Bommana Raj Kumar, Rajahmundry rural constituency convenor Akula Veerrraju, party central governing council member Jakkampudi Vijaya Lakshmi, MLC Adireddi Appa Rao and State secretary of YSRCP Trade Wing TK Visweswara Reddy were present. Earlier, several leaders, including Kakinada city MLA Dwarampudi Chandrasekhar Reddy and party governing council member Pilli Subhash Chandra Bose, visited Sharmila at St Paul's Church compound. Later, Sharmila stopped at the garden near Madhurapudi Airport for night halt where her late father YS Rajasekhara Reddy took rest for a week due to ill-health. It may recalled here that Rajasekhara Reddy fell ill after his padayatra entered East Godavari district in May 2003 at Konthamuru village. He had resumed his padayatra after recovering. A temporary camp was set up at Bathina Sathi Raju Garden near Madhurapudi Airport where he had stayed for the night. At that time, doctors had advised Rajasekhara Reddy to put a halt to his padayatra as his health was deteriorating. But, he made it clear that he would not go back to Hyderabad without completing the padayatra. Later, he assured his supporters and family members that he would restart the yatra after getting treatment at Madhurapudi. YSR's family members YS Vijayamma, YS Jaganmohan Reddy, Sharmila, Anil Kumar, Bharathi and others had visited him at Madhurapudi.
