Surprise checks on vehicles intensified

Eluru: Police, in coordination with the transport officials, have undertaken a massive drive to prevent accidents on highways.A As part of the drive, surprise raids were conducted on vehicle users at 18 points between Kalaparru and Sidhantam in the district. These raids would be intensified in future, disclosed Deputy Transport Commissioner Ch Sridevi. She took part in the surprise checks on vehicles coming on the wrong direction and irregularly parked vehicles near 'Toorpu Locks' in the town on Tuesday.

Speaking on the occasion, she said road accidents on highways in the district for the past one week had claimed 10 lives. Alarmed at the rising accidents, the transport department, in coordination with police conducted surprise checks and booked cases against 500 erring vehicle users and collected fines on Tuesday. She warned the erring drivers that their licenses would be cancelled if they are found repeating traffic violations.
