Prof. Sunaina Singh, Vice-Chancellor of English and Foreign Languages University (EFLU), was felicitated on the occasion of Women’s Day on Friday. Citizens Council Andhra Pradesh, a social service organisation conferred the ‘Women of the Year 2014’ award for her contribution to English language and higher education.

“I am humbled by this honour, and my message to young girls and women is that we must empower ourselves. It’s not just for women, but for everyone. We must empower ourselves and one can do this by hard work,” Prof. Sunaina said.
Even as the felicitation was in progress in the V C chambers, the students of EFLU took out a protest elsewhere in the campus against closure of reading rooms. The students conducted “Paint your protest” campaign and voiced their dissent by painting on the banner. Most of the students were concerned about the closure of reading rooms. The reading rooms which were functioning round-the-clock have now been closed and were shifted to hostels earlier this week.
“We will continue to protest till the reading rooms are reopened. They have closed it without any notice. The reading rooms in hostels do not have a good environment to study,” said Muhammed, research scholar, EFLU.
