New Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Wednesday dismissed a plea challenging a notification by the UPSC by which Arabic and Persian languages were excluded from the list of optional subjects for the civil services examinations. A division bench of Chief Justice G Rohini and Justice RS Endlaw refused to entertain the public interest litigation filed by lawyer Shahid Ali, saying the court was not going to stall the entire selection process of the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). The plea sought quashing of the March 5, 2013 notification of the UPSC that excluded Arabic and Persian from the list of optional subjects mentioned in group two 'literature of languages' from the main examination of the civil services conducted by the UPSC. The PIL also sought a direction to the UPSC that Arabic and Persian be included again in the list.
