Kancheepuram: Senior VHP leader S Vedantham on Monday decried the opposition from political parties in Tamil Nadu to 'Sanskrit Week' celebrations proposed by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) in its schools across the country next month. "It is cheap politics that is behind the opposition to an ancient Indian language which is indeed the divine language," he said.

Various parties, including ruling AIADMK and BJP's allies MDMK and PMK, have opposed the proposed "Sanskrit Week" celebrations slated to be held from August 7, with Chief Minister Jayalalithaa saying it would be appropriate to have organised Classical Language Week in each state based on its linguistic heritage.
