Aligarh: Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) has decided to introduce a two-tier system of examination for securing admission in professional courses in the institute starting 2015-16 session, in a bid to strengthen transparency in admission tests.

Admission test for medical, engineering, and class XI courses from 2015-16 session, would constitute a preliminary test, held at various centers across the country, followed by a final admission test which would be held at the AMU campus, AMU spokesman Rahat Abrar said.

The decision of the Academic Council of the University comes in the backdrop of the institute cancelling the MBBS/BDS entrance exam for the year 2015-16, amidst reports of AIPMT examinees using high-tech gadgets for cheating.

Abrar said the decision has been taken in the wake of reports that examinees in various universities are often resorting to unfair means with the help of computer-based gadgets and this decision may help in putting a brake on such malpractices.
