Confident, an adjective, means being hopeful, you may not be quite sure but hopeful it will happen; showing confidence in someone or something, certain that something will happen. The derivatives of confident are confidence (noun), confidently (adverb) and confidential (adjective).

Confidence is a feeling in someone that he or she can achieve something, a belief to do well; to succeed in something, certain that something is going to happen, something is true; consciousness of one’s belief powers, abilities; reliance on one’s circumstances, skills that it is possible to make it happen. Confidence also refers to faith in someone that he or she will at in a proper way, in a good manner, in an effective manner.

Confidence is the state of being certain. Confidence is the trust and intimacy one has in another person. People have confidence in the governance of the country that the rulers or the political establishment will act in the interest of the citizens. If the confidence starts to fail among the people, then they will spur change: dispose the government, overthrow them in elections among others.

Human beings are confident that the sun rise every day, and confident the sun will set every day. You are confident of success in life: you are confident that you will possess the skills that will lead you to achieve employment, and live a life of your choice. Confidential is an adjective meaning secret, private; you share something with someone that is private, secret, trusting with secret information. Confidentiality is a noun, and confidentially is an adverb.

People, organizations, countries have confidential matters. Confidant means to place faith in someone and share secrets with him or her. Confidant is a person whom you trust, and share intimate aspects of life, secrets, private things; to whom you entrust something.

When your confidant reveals information to others you lose confidence in him, or her. The opposite of confidant is enemy, or foe. Confidant refers to man, and woman but not confidante. Confidante is a woman who trusted as a friend, who is your confidant. How many confidants, and confidantes you have?
