Mumbai: The Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay has a Student Mentor Program that enables constructive interaction, guidance and mentoring of junior students by their seniors. The senior students not only help freshers settle into the Institute but also help solve their problems while on campus.

This year, the Student Mentor Program team of IIT Bombay has launched a website (https://gymkhana.iitb.ac.in/~smp/) to help the prospective students of IIT Bombay make a wise decision about which branch they should choose. For those who will clear their JEE Advanced this year, the website has information about the admission process in IIT Bombay. It lists some important dates that the applicants should keep in mind and also has information about courses, hostels and other facilities offered by IITB.

“Over the years, students have been blindly choosing the departments on the basis of previous year’s trends and cut-offs. Some of them later regret their decision as the branch turns out to be a lot different from their expectations. The website gives a holistic picture of the academic scenario and campus life at IITB. We hope this helps the students make an informed choice,” said Akshay Agarwal, a student leading the Student Mentor Program of IIT Bombay.

The website also has testimonials from some of the famous alumni of IIT Bombay such as Prof. Nitin Nohria, Dean of Harvard Business School.

Adding more about the website, another coordinator for SMP Ketan Katkar said, “Freshers can get an overview of each department. The website is also available in Hindi. The students can reach out to us through Facebook plugins integrated with the website”.
