Endangered Snow Leopard Spotted For The First Time In Kumaon Himalayas. The evasive snow leopard, one of the most endangered species on the planet has been spotted in Kumaon Himalayas.

Dehradun: The evasive snow leopard, one of the most endangered species on the planet has been spotted in Kumaon Himalayas.


As reported by the Uttarakhand forest department officials, the camera trap photograph of the snow leopard was the first documented evidence of the presence of the species in Kumaon region though it is known to prowl the wilds elsewhere in the state.


They also said, that the very recent photographs reported of this rare endangered specie gives an undeniable proof of the fact that there exists, not just one, but 11 of snow leopards in the region.


Vipul Maurya, who is studying presence of snow leopards in the greater Himalayas said, “It’s the first photographic evidence of the snow leopard’s presence in Kumaon region. Through the evidence, forest department would be able to prepare better conservation strategy for this endangered species.”


The snow leopard was reportedly captured in Bageshwar district on June 29 at an altitude of 4,100 meters above sea level.
