Hyderabad: The month of May which began on a rainy note in many places across Telangana has brought down the temperatures drastically and kept the heat waves under check at least for the time being.

According to Skymet, pre-monsoon showers are likely to occur intermittently until May 20 and cities like Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Pune and Bhopal will receive rain during this period.

Speaking to The Hans India, assistant officer at the Meteorological Department Narsimha Rao said that the thunderstorms were a common activity in summer and would continue until the monsoon sets in. But the weather in the next two days, according to him, would be dry in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.

Heavy rain that lashed the city on Monday night uprooted over 300 trees, damaged roads in many places and led to water stagnation in many areas. The GHMC pressed into service 20,000 sanitation workers who cleared the uprooted trees and repaired the damaged and overflowing manholes.

GHMC Commissioner B Janardhan Reddy said the Engineering, Sanitation and Urban Bio-diversity wings took up the cleaning work on a war-footing. Commenting on the precautionary measures that are being taken, the GHMC Commissioner said volunteers would be deployed in slums and wards as part of disaster management practice.
