Thai Pavilion has been on my wishlist for quite some time now, although I have been to Viva & Tease few times already, The Grill & Thai Pavilion has always missed my radar. Wanted to celebrate a special lunch at place that I haven’t been before and Thai Pavilion was my obvious choice.

Having travelled to Thailand and other Asian countries, have always loved the mélange of flavors that shaped the Thai Cuisine and fortunately Thai Pavilion at Vivanta By Taj brings an exclusive dining experience for Thai cuisine enthusiasts where all the exotic vegetables and ingredients are sourced from Thailand.

As I walked in, the waitress escorted me to the table of my choice. Being a weekday afternoon, not many tables were occupied. The ambiance is that of contemporary and yet it gives you a traditional feel. After a quick introduction with Chef Arun I was rest assured of the gastronomical offering I had in store.

After a quick glance at the menu, opted for a Tom Kha Kai with Hor mok Tofu as an entrée. In the interim the complimentary crispy fried wontons served with four different arrays of sauces was a good start especially the spicy peanut & sweet chili sauce. Tom Kha Kai is the traditional thai coconut soup that gets its rich flavor from the quintessential Thai herbs, this one was as authentic as it could get with subtle flavors of lemon grass rightly balancing the coconut milk.

Hor Mok Tofu was a spiced herb flavored tofu and corn dumplings which is wrapped in banana leaves, in my opinion a complex dish such as Hor Mok Tofu when tastes so great only shows the culinary expertise with which the chefs prepare food here at Thai Pavilion. Loved it! Relishing my experience so far, Mr Otpal – the Maître d'hôtel offered a chilli guava based drink which was perfectly done, indeed a refreshing drink for the afternoon.

For the mains, opted for Kai Guay Tiew lard Na which is a flat noodle topped with chicken and loads of exotic vegetables done in a bean paste and then flavored with brown sauce, A pad thai which regardless of its regional variation was delicious and extremely satisfying.

Finished off this gourmet experience with the popular Tab Tim Krob, which is a popular coconut milk based dessert with crunchy water chestnuts, a perfect dessert for the summer afternoon which was served over ice and it was extremely refreshing and cool.

After such an elaborate meal and having missed most of the things on the menu, I can only vouch to come back to try the rest of the things, especially the Thai Green & Yellow curry. Being a wine only person, I completely forgot about the wide arrays of wines that they have in store. A special mention about Pripankar – The restaurant manger and Otpal our attendant for the table who made sure each and every minute thing was addressed so we have a comfortable dining experience.

Thumbs up for this one !
