Narsapur parliamentary Constituency: Ticket Tussle Begins in BJP. With chances of a TDP-BJP tie-up for the Narsapur Lok Sabha seat brightening, a tussle began among the BJP leaders for the seat.
Former Union minister, industrialist stake claim for seat
With chances of a TDP-BJP tie-up for the Narsapur Lok Sabha seat brightening, a tussle began among the BJP leaders for the seat. Actor and former Union minister UV Krishnam Raju and well-known industrialist Raghurama Krishnam Raju started claiming the seat even though the party leadership is yet to announce the candidate.
The BJP hopes that it would get the Lok Sabha seat in the event of a tie-up with the TDP. This constituency comprises Narsapur, Bhimavaram, Undi, Palakole, Achanta, Tanuku and Tadepalligudem Assembly segments. As the TDP has strong candidates in these Assembly segments, the BJP expects a smooth run for its Lok Sabha candidate. In a similar set-up earlier, UV Krishnam Raju had contested from this constituency on the BJP ticket and won.
He later became Union minister. He has stepped up efforts through senior leaders to contest from Narsapur again. He has also taken up extensive tour of this constituency.
Meanwhile, Raghurama Krishnam Raju, who was vexed with the Jagan affair and quit YSRCP despite getting a chance to contest from Narsapur parliamentary constituency, joined the BJP. He too is keen on contesting from Narsapur. It is said that he too urged the party leaders to field him from Narsapur and also met TDP supremo N Chandrababu Naidu in this regard. He bought a building at Pedda Amiram near Bhimavaram and took up campaign from there.
However, BJP local leaders say that the party had suffered a serious setback as the former Union minister had deserted the party when it was facing tough times and joined PRP, but returned later. Such leaders should not be encouraged, they contend.
