Guntur: The indefinite hunger strike launched by YSR Congress honorary president Y S Vijayamma entered the fourth day on Thursday. Amidst reports of her deteriorating health, her daughter Y S Sharmila, daughter-in-law Y S Bharathi and former minister Y S Vivekananda Reddy visited her at the camp. They said that the family was ready for any sacrifice to protect the interests of the people in the State. Doctors from Guntur Government Hospital, who conducted tests on her at the camp, found that her BP and sugar levels were falling and therefore advised her to give a thought to her health. The doctors asked her to end her fast, considering her age and deteriorating health.

However, Vijayamma turned down their requests and said that she would continue her fast till the Centre rolled back its decision to divide the State. Former minister and party senior leader Y S Vivekananda Reddy appealed to the people to extend their support to Vijayamma’s hunger strike. He criticised Union Minister and senior Congress leader Digvijay Singh for blaming bifurcation issues on non-Congress parties, including the YSR Congress. He said that YSR Congress had never agreed to a division of the State; since the Centre had sought to divide the State, the party just wanted equal justice.
