Hyderabad: At first look, almost all parties in the State have more or less finalised names of possible contenders in the ensuing Assembly and Parliamentary elections. However, no party has released its list so far.

While uncertainty on electoral tie-up was one of the main reasons for the delay, the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) has been facing a different issue altogether. It is learnt that TRS delayed releasing the list of candidates keeping in mind the auspicious Ugadi festival.
TRS was one of the few parties that sounded the poll bugle soon after a notification was issued by the Election Commission in the first week of March. It duly constituted a committee for finalising the candidates, which went about with the job immediately. With TRS chief K Chandrasekhar Rao ruling out an alliance with Congress at a meeting held at Telangana Bhavan on March 15 when Congress ex-MLA from Mancherial, N Diwakar Rao, was admitted into the party, speculations are rife that TRS would come out with its list any time.
According to party insiders, TRS did not want to invite trouble on Ugadi day from those who missed the bus. It would have been a bad augury if they had raised a banner of revolt against the party. Already, the exit of G Vinod and Vivek from the party and their re-entry into the Congress has sent a message that it was ‘anti-Dalit’ and that was why they had left the party.
Similarly, the party was also facing stiff opposition even from TJAC over the admission of Konda Surekha into the party. The assurance that she would be fielded from Warangal (East) led to a self-immolation bid by a worker who was strongly opposed to the proposal.
Although it has been trying to appease hundreds of ticket aspirants in several constituencies, the TRS leadership did not want to take chances by announcing the list during Ugadi festival. It is likely to announce the list on Friday.
