Spirituality on canvas

Khandika in Sanskrit means bell. Based on this concept Aditi Gemini had held an exhibition a few months back at Muse art gallery. Few of these very attractive paintings with a spiritual concept are still in display at the gallery.

Her paintings have a religious and spiritual outlook with temple bells and sadhus featuring heavily in her work, something she attributes to her upbringing and her grandfather’s Mythological themed paintings.

Try, try and try but never fail to try.

A clichéd saying! Yes, but one that holds true no matter what you’re trying to do. This is what Aditi Gemini would say when you meet her. Born in Rajasthan, Aditi always dreamt of being an artist. She shone through even as a child. Though her brothers were artists and there was less encouragement from the family to a girl child. Determined she took took a determined step towards being a painter in 2005, when she enrolled at the Rajasthan School of Art to work towards a Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Arts.

Her first ever exhibition, however, came only after she graduated in 2009, where her paintings were displayed at the Lalit Kala Akademi in Jaipur as part of a competition which she unfortunately did not win.

Not willing to let her dream fall behind, she began renting her own studio at the L&P Hutheesing Visual Art Center in Ahmedabad and went professional with her first ever group exhibit in 2010. Encouraged by this success, Aditi has now gone on to take part in over 20 group shows across the country in the last few years.

“As a child the whole family would go to the temple to pray,” says Aditi, “and whenever someone rang the bell, it would make this “ohm” sound that would reverberate in me and fill my body with joy and positive thinking.”

The need to translate that emotion onto canvas is what drove her to create her Bells series of paintings. With her Sadhus series also garnering a lot of attention, Aditi has now started working on a new series of Conch themed paintings, which she hopes will get as much attention as her previous works.

Spiritually inclined Aditi says – “With my paintings I only want to bring out joy, happiness and positive vibrations.
